Yao women

So, the first question arises is who are yao women. Yao women are natives of Huangluo Yoa, on the banks of river Jinsha, China. These women are famous for their long and healthy hair. Their Village holds the record in "Guinness Book Of World Records" for the World's Longest hair village. The average length of the natives of this village is about 5 feet, but some times the hair length goes up to as long as 7 feet.

How to prepare yao women fermented rice water?

Different rice water recipes are practiced all over the world some involve using boiled rice water or some other insists on keeping the rice dipped in water overnight.
But the Yao women rice water recipe is somewhat different from the above-mentioned methods. Yao women use Plain white rice but once a woman mentioned that sticky white rice will work even better.

So it starts with;
  • Rinse the Rice in clean water.
  • Then, add rice in the bowl and add some water, exact measurements are still unknown as yao women prepare huge batches of rice water in once. Then, thoroughly massage the rice in between hands to get all the necessary nutrients in the rice water.
  • Strain the water, and keep it for boiling.
  • Add Pomelo peel (a type of citrus fruit, native to their region), so one can use orange or grapefruit peel instead.

  • Add tea plant remains to the boiling water, we can use tea tree essential oil.
  • Boil it for 10-15 minutes.
  • Now, the mixture is kept for fermentation for at least 1 week.
  • Use the mixture alone to wash the hair and keep it in hair for 1-2 hours and then rinse with clean water.
The results of using rice water may vary from region to region and person to person, moreover, yao women are practicing this for ages so we may not be able to reproduce the same results.
