One of the healthiest foods on earth - CHIA SEEDS

Chia seeds are known to have high nutritional potential. Mayas and Aztecs used them in their diets. Chia plants are native to Mexico. These are non-GMO and gluten-free. Chia seeds are quite popular these days due to their numerous health benefits and nutritionally rich profile. 

                        

Chia seeds are an excellent source of quality protein, soluble fiber, polyunsaturated fatty acids; omega-3 and omega 6 fatty acids, phytochemicals, and a number of minerals (iron, calcium, phosphorus, manganese, potassium, and copper) in more or fewer quantities. 

As per the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Nutrition provided by one ounce (28 gram) of chia seeds is as follow;

 Fiber - 11.2 gram

 Protein - 5.6 gram

 Carbohydrates - 13.07 gram

 Fat - 8.4 gram

 Calories - 131 

 Sugar is not present

Various researches have claimed that chia seeds performed well in the case of different diseases. 

Weight Loss and Type 2 Diabetes:



A study carried out on overweight or obese people with type 2 diabetes for 6 months demonstrated that there is a greater reduction in a weight loss of people fed on chia seed containing diet as compared to a diet without chia seeds. 
Promising results were obtained for the management of Type 2 diabetes.

Chia seeds being high in fiber and low in calories, so people feel full for a longer period and helps in weight management, also keeps the blood sugar stable and lower the risk of developing diabetes.

Heart Diseases



A study performed on rats, for 8 weeks with 5% chia seeds, demonstrated that chia seeds being a good source of essential fatty acids; Alpha-linoleic acid induces lipid redistribution, hepatoprotection, and cardioprotection.

Chia seeds are a good source of proteins, omega 3s and fiber may be beneficial for prevention of heart-related problems.

Digestion


Chia seeds are high in fiber so help to prevent constipation and maintain regular bowel movement.
Chia also helps in detoxification and maintaining a healthy digestive tract.
